The Most Important Work

Psalm 127:3 “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”

Parenting is one of God’s most important callings. Children are a gift and blessing from God. We are entrusted with their education and well-being, both physically and spiritually. Unfortunately, there is a huge gap between godly and worldly values. This task is becoming increasingly difficult in our world today. Today’s society is rapidly abandoning godly moral standards, which most definitely leads to destruction. Our job, through God’s help, is to protect our children from anything that would steal or destroy their immortal soul.

Every parent has felt the weight of this great responsibility. It is a wonderful reassurance to know that God’s Word is full of promises and hope for our children! There is nothing more important than establishing God’s Word in their young hearts and minds throughout childhood.

A parent should express that “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 God’s Word gives hope in Him. The things this world may have to offer will fade quickly. No matter what our kids may face in life, they can have a confidence in God knowing He is faithful to guide through the unknown.

The opportunity to know God and to build a relationship with Him is to their advantage. Attending church, hearing the Word preached, reading from God’s Word and, spending time in prayer are important tools for developing a relationship with God. Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Kids today are being influenced at every turn. God has a specific plan and future for each child. The Bible provides clear instructions about bringing up a child in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Teaching and instructing through biblical examples gives them a foundation they can build on forever.

Proverbs 23:24-25 states, “The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.”

The benefits that follow the proper training of children in the way of the Lord are countless. This training protects them from unnecessary shame, disgrace and heartbreak. It is most important to raise our children to be wise and with the solid foundation of the gospel beneath them.
