God’s Authority Over All

Written by Jim Kretzler

Powerful examples of God’s authority over nature are found in the flood account from the Book of Genesis.    Because of widespread corruption, God judged the earth with a global flood—an event called a rain storm that   humanity had never witnessed before. Yet even in judgment, mercy was present. God preserved Noah and his family, providing an ark of safety and establishing a covenant afterward. His power was not chaotic; it was purposeful and just.

Nature – its order, force, beauty, and precision – continues to reflect divine authority and creative power. As Psalm 19:1 declares, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”

Beyond creation, God’s power is seen even more personally in transformed lives. The same God who spoke the universe into existence still breathes life into the human heart.

Scripture gives us wonderful promises that we can claim. In the Gospel of John 3:16, we are reminded of God’s love and the gift of eternal life. Additionally, the Epistle to the Ephesians 2:8 teaches that we are saved by grace through faith—not by our own works.

Nevertheless, mankind has a rather formidable nemesis: the Devil. Rather than openly confront God, the Devil works subtly. His strategy is rarely dramatic rebellion; rather, it is quiet replacement.

Instead of dependence on God, he promotes self-sufficiency.
Instead of prayer, distraction.
Instead of worship, business.
Instead of truth, subtle distortion.

Ultimately, God’s power is unmistakable—in creation, in redemption, and in daily provision. Yet the battle between God and the Devil for our souls never ends. The question for each person is not whether God is powerful, but whether we will recognize His work and give all of ourselves to the Lord God, the Alpha, and the Omega.
