Inspired

Have you ever considered what inspires a songwriter to compose a song? An artist to paint a picture? An author to write a story? Maybe it is the beauty of nature or a life experience. Sometimes it could be patriotism or just a personal interest. When people look within themselves and be truly honest, they find inspiration that comes from God.

Responsibility moves us to action. True, families need to be nurtured and lovingly attended. Money needs to be earned and carefully managed. Houses and yards need proper care. Thankfully, there is more to life than just work. What beyond obligation inspires you? What do you do to enjoy life?

Nature is a good motivator.  Autumn is the perfect time to consider the beauty of God’s creation and remember it was made for our enjoyment. Just simply walking outside and taking a breath of fresh air can help brighten your day. A bird’s song, a beautiful sunset or a deer feeding in a field will bring moments of delight. Thank God for all He has done in these moments.

I enjoy walking or hiking. Often as I take in the beauty around me, my heart fills with praise to God causing a song to come out of my mouth. These are very special times in my personal relationship with God.

Maybe your satisfaction is found in music, cooking, or another hobby. It is good for us to try something new. Listen to a new style of music or even learn to play an instrument. Try out a new recipe using an ingredient you have never used before. Take up a new hobby. God wants us to be well-rounded people, always moving forward. Before involving yourself in a new pursuit, ask God what you can do for His purpose. If you enjoy singing, learn a song that will bring Him praise while encouraging the weary-hearted. Maybe you like to write. Can you write an article, a poem, a story or even a book that will help advance God’s cause?

There will always be a new area of labor for those who ask God what needs to be done. Followed by a desire to work and a willing effort, great accomplishments will result. Alternatively, you can go back to something you have set aside from years past. Pick up where you left off and let God use it for His glory. Recently, I began playing my violin again so I could be a member of our church orchestra. It requires effort to practice and time to attend rehearsals, but it is worth it when God blesses the songs we play as an orchestra.

Life has much to offer and as we move forward, we need to seek God’s will and perform it. These divine inspirations will become our pleasures and we will have a fulfilled life.
