What is your favorite season of the year? Many enjoy the beauty of autumn leaves or the tranquility of falling snow. For others, it may be the renewed hope of spring or fun in the sun on a summer day. We could, on the other hand, view the seasons as dull – the cold, dreary days of winter, the wetness of spring, the heat of summer and the barrenness of fall. However our approach, remember God is in it all and we see His handiwork in every season. “While earth remaineth, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” This promise was given by God in the eighth chapter of Genesis and it remains the same today.
God, in His infinite wisdom, set this all in motion from the very beginning of creation. Without the continual cycle of day and night, along with the seasons, earth would be unstructured and confusing.
We all have seasons of life as well. Many are enjoyable, while others are a tough waiting game. Life can always be viewed in a negative hue, but wouldn’t it be better to recognize how He is working on our behalf? It is very comforting to know God is with us always. “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
During some of the bleakest seasons of my life, I have learned how important it is to lean on God. My husband and I have both faced afflictions that could have greatly altered our lifestyle
or even ended in death. Yet during these difficulties, we learned valuable lessons that we
would have otherwise missed.
Nothing can compare to the time we spent on our knees and we heard God’s voice speak to us personally. This brought peace to our troubled minds. While our circumstances did not change immediately, knowing God was with us made all the difference between having internal peace or anguish.
Another source of comfort was reading the Bible and searching out a verse or two of scripture to claim as a promise directly given to us by God. Having the support of a good pastor, knowing that he and others were praying, helping to bear the load, was extremely comforting as well.
Thankfully, I can report that our season of affliction has changed and God has sent His healing touch. Many other seasons have come and gone, good and bad, but God has been with us all the way.
It is a privilege to rely upon God and watch Him change situations that would otherwise seem impossible. What season are you facing? Do you feel barren like the trees at the end of autumn? Remember the promise of renewal is there for you.
Maybe your heart feels bleak and
dreary, like a seemingly never-ending winter. Don’t forget that God is with you. Go to Him. He
will supply sufficient grace and peace will come knowing He makes everything beautiful in His
time.
